-What do you think about the actual rock sound in Seattle? And the urban rock sound in Usa ? What changes you see in the actual music about the digital media and the liberation of tracks via internet? What do you think about Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Ustream and other free media devices? What do you think about Megaupload and S.O.P.A / P.I.P.A.? Seattle is a great musical town to call home. It's gone through so many changes in the last 20 years with many different bands and sounds. We are definitely influenced by Seattle's music history and are proud to be from here. Social media has been a huge asset to us in spreading our music. Touring and selling music has been successful for us because of sites like Spotify, Pandora, and SoundCloud. Some people have strong opinions about downloading or listening to music for free, but if they enjoy our art, we support them getting it anyway they choose. And we hope they buy a t-shirt or come to a show. Those are hard to download for free.
-Can you tell us about the new LP NOT QUITE YOURS? And the story behind programming and recording the album? We recorded the record in San Diego with Kevin Augunas (Gotye, Cold War Kids, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros) and Mark Neill (Black Keys). We recorded it mostly live, together in one room. It has a very raw, live-energy feel to it that we are very proud of. With the help of Kevin and Mark, we deconstructed each song down to the core, then built them back up with a very un-forced and natural feel. This was a big change for us coming from meticulously recording our last album in a very controlled and thought out manner.
-How began the story behind the new fresh single SLIPPING AWAY? Slipping Away is a fun song to play, and people connect with it most when we play it live. The song is about what I see as being a battle between religious ideology and practice. I don't want to tell other people what to believe about religion or faith, but I think people can relate to the experience as being one that involves a lot of struggle, chaos, and emotion. Again, it's not everyone's reality or experience, it's mine.
-What are your inspirations in the beginning of this 2012? What artists and producers do you recommend of ? Maybe a 2012 tour in Argentina? We listened to a lot of Black Keys and Dan Auerbach when we were recording the record. We are all big fans of UK bands like Elbow and Keane. We also enjoy various hip hop as well as folk artists. Our tastes vary within the band, but we all tend to gravitate towards catchy melodies and inventive production. We'd love nothing more than to come down to Argentina this year! Hopefully it's in the cards.
-Can you write any words of free speach to our people and fans around the world?
Please find our new record "Not Quite Yours" anywhere you can, and connect with us on Twitter and Facebook. We love making new international penpals! |
