1- What are your feelings about to return to Buenos Aires for perform alive with your fans?
I am really happy to be coming back to Buenos Aires again. Last year we had a fantastic show there, so I wanted to make sure that we could return very soon, the audience was simply amazing! South America is definitely where you can find some of the most passionate fans in the world. |

2- Can you tell us something about the show in Niceto? We Can't wait more! :)
Last year when we played at Teatro Vorterix, we performed the first 2 New Order albums Movement and Power, Corruption & Lies, and we also supported ourselves with a set of Joy Division songs...
The problem was because we did that as a surprise, without announcing it, a lot of people missed it!
So this time we will come back to play both Joy Division albums, but will also support ourselves with a New Order set! Make sure you arrive early...
The upcoming show at Niceto Club will be almost 3 hours long and we are all very excited about it.

3- Can you tell us about your great band "The Light"? We love it!
We have been touring as The Light now for 4 and a half years, it is my way of trying to perform every song I have ever written live once again.
We started with the Joy Division albums in 2010, and it had been 30 years since some of those songs had been heard.
After that we moved on to tour the first 2 New Order albums, like last year in Argentina, and last week in the UK we just played the 3rd and 4th New Order albums Low-Life and Brotherhood live for the first time. Hopefully we can bring that show to Argentina next year..? The guys in the band are all fantastic musicians and they do a really great job.
My son plays bass with me in the band, then the drummer, guitarist and keyboard player were all members of my side project band Monaco, so we all know each other really well.
It is the happiest band I have ever been in. |
4- Are you touring right now right? Do you like touring?
Yes I love touring. Right now we have just played some shows in Germany and France, then we will come home for a bit before we fly to South America for that leg of the tour. After that we will go up to Mexico, the USA and Canada. I love touring and I always have done. It is great to see different places all around the world and to meet fans there who are always very passionate about the music.
5- How do you feel when is the moment and you and your band are playing alive these fantastic records of Joy Division and New Order?
It feels great. Like I said before, some of the songs that we are playing have not been played live for over 30 years! I just can't believe that. So it feels great to be able to bring the songs back to life again because I know that it is what the people want. One of the main problems when I was in New Order was that the other members just would not play these songs, they just wanted to be lazy and play the same greatest hits setlist all the time. So now it is wonderful to have that freedom that allows me to play everything. We can play every single Joy Division song and everything by New Order that was written between 1980 and 1987. It's a lot of work but I really enjoy doing it. The songs are very powerful and they all sound great live.
6- Can you tell us something about Manchester music?
Well Manchester has always been one of the most famous places for music. Some great bands have all come from Manchester - the Stone Roses, the Happy Mondays, the Charlatans, Elbow, Doves... It has a great history musically. And still today Manchester is producing some great bands, from electronic bands like Delphic to garage rock bands like my son's friends the Slovaks. There is a great range of music being made here all the time.
7- What are your inspirations right now?
My inspiration is always my family who drive me on all the time & help me to do the things I do!
8- We have a funny question: What do you have in your backpack? (It means Moochila here)
I don't really carry a backpack! But when I go on tour I always take certain things in my suitcase... I will always have my copies of our local newspaper the Manchester Evening News, I like to read them on tour because it makes me feel like I am at home. I always take a couple of books too. Reading is a good way to pass the time on tour, there is a lot of sitting around doing nothing in airports or in buses etc... I also always have a can of red bull and my iPhone! |
